Wii - 12/20/2006
Last week we were fortunate enough to obtain a Wii for our house. I have to say, I am quite amazed by this new console- and I have a feeling that it will be the clear leader in the latest release of the console wars- here are some reasons why:
- Controls: A totally new control scheme where we now have the players physical motion involved with the game. This is completely different that the same old crap that PS3 and Xbox360 is providing (same bulky controller with the same ol' buttons).
- This has the ability to pull gamers who don't care about extreme graphics into the gaming world! Honestly, most gamers could care less about graphics anymore- heck I even prefer old Super Nintendo games over most PS2 or XBox games even now... Most people who are plugging the PS3 and XBox 360 as the best are simply shooting down the Wii's graphics- but if you talk to non-hardcore gamers who just want to play the game, not drool over polygons, you will see that Nintendo is right on with their thinking. Most of them would say "so what?" to the idea of a Cell processor and "who cares?" to the realistic effects on the PS2 or PS3. The Wii has something better- Fun Factor.
- Games: Much of the Wii's success will be determined by the quality of games that are released for it (as with all systems). Good idea for them that they inherit the old GameCube games abd even some legacy games available for download (although this is kind of annoying because what if you actually own the old cartridges??). IF game developers start using the Wii's control scheme, they could make some serious headway in the industry and the way that we think of playing games.
- Web Content: I know- this is also used by all the other consoles, but at least the Wii has some Web capabilities too.
If you haven't tried it yet- it is certainly worth a look- even if you don't really play video games, you will love this system.
November 06 - 11/03/2006
October brought some new 52-week highs to
GME- which is pretty cool for me to see having been long since June. So far an average of
+35% return- nice. Stick with
GME for at least the rest of the year- its going to be a great holiday season :)
On the other hand, the Utility fest of fall and winter has just started- however I decided to take my meger profits on
TE at the end of October... I figured that this one was a little too risky as no movement happens even on good news- but bad news would send it to the gutter. I also got into
CAPS from The Montley Fool on the lookout for some community-spotted stars to put the cash into. After some filtering, I decided to get into
GW - seems like a pretty good deal to me and will hopefully start seeing around 9-10 by January. Keep an eye out for
EZM and
CRI though- these are still on my watch-list. Have a good November- good luck!

I found
this very interesting set of pages by chance the other day. In my mind, this guy has some really good ideas and mostly it is a shame that a lot of them have just been left on the table...
In particular, I really like the ideas on energy found
here. I think someone needs to figure out a way to get this guy to create his full scale model and have it at least available to those interested. I mean, I get his agruments about not doing it, really... But I believe that if this device actually could work as he states, then it could change the world for the better.
I also found the air conditioning and heating article to be quite interesting as well. Imagine having unlimited cool air under your house for the entire summer and then in the winter having a good supply of hot air under the house as well. It could easily save thousands per year. Check it out
here.
There are other articles, but these seemed to be the most interesting ideas to me. I may end up writing to him- maybe even attempt to convince him to release his solar power generator to someone in the world... who knows?
Moved - 10/10/2006
Well, the move is over (or still going on depending on how you look at it). Things went pretty well with the logistics of moving the fish tanks and items over- no one or thing was lost, so it counts as a success! Sadly there was a lot of cleaning to do because our sellers left the place a little foul. Things just shouldn't have to be that way- we left our old house a palace for our buyer and she knew it (which was cool). We did take *everything*, but at least we left it quite clean.
Just this weekend, we installed our old outside lights along the walkway and they look very nice. We hope that they will help light the walkway as it was really dark out there at night. We also pulled about a years worth of weeds (go figure) out of the front beds. I am also getting used to the maintinance of the grass and am almost caught up on it- given it was super long when we got there. It is a lot more than I am used to, but it is certainly cool! Now we just need to get the inside all de-boxed and then things will be set! Of course, it's time to paint again, but thats not too horrible...
